Making Deals…
Mar 26th, 2007 by Xangis
I’ve been working on making some deals with pulp magazine publishers to get some stock into PulpSource. So far everyone I’ve chatted with (via email) has been pretty open to the idea of opening an online small press magazine (and eventually book) shop. I’ve even had more than one offer of ad exchanges or even free advertising.
It’s entirely possible that this thing could grow WAY beyond my expectations. I think I’ll need to start looking into sources of capital. I have excellent credit and good collateral, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get some sort of a loan… in theory. There’s also the potentially more troubling option of offering up shares of Zeta Centauri, though I’d rather not if I don’t have to. One thing I’m really NOT interested in is running up the credit cards. I keep getting my limits raised, so that’s a loaded gun in my pocket. Let’s keep the safety on.
In chatting with James Beach, the editor of Dark Discoveries magazine, I’ve found out a bit more about how the whole magazine distribution process works and there’s not much of a surprise in that area. It’s about how I’d expect: when you get distribution your circulation picks up greatly (duh), you don’t make any money for a year and have to eat your costs, and with the higher distribution you can get some decent ad revenue. It’s nice to have confirmation of some suspicions and a little more data to go on.
I have a lot more publishers to contact, but things are looking good.
The Free Wave Samples site has officially become my highest-traffic website, at least for now. I haven’t been making any money on it, but the traffic of about 220 unique visitors a day is encouraging — at least it keeps me posting new material.
