March Survival Results
Apr 1st, 2007 by Xangis
So, for the month of March, here are my results:
All Possible Worlds: 7 subscription sales, 17 single issue sales (brings the total to 11 subs and 19 singles counting preorders)
Google Ads: $9.61 with just over 14k page impressions. Google terms of service prevent me from giving any more info than that, but my best sites were All Possible Worlds, Zeta Centauri, Free Wave Samples, and Sound Programming.
Software: $22.50 in sales after transaction fees.
If I made $50 profit per issue from All Possible Worlds I’d be doing great. Since the first issue was such a small print run, I actually lose $0.02 each time I sell an issue. Factoring in the Google ad revenue I’m making $0.04 per issue, but that doesn’t come close to covering the $800+ I spent on content. I’d cry if I didn’t know that new magazines were SUPPOSED to lose money in the beginning.
Expenses outstripped income. I bought a metric ton of domains and extra hosting this month. At least I shouldn’t have to spend anything on hosting or domains for a while.
I can’t wait to get distribution. A package is going to Diamond Comics Distributors on Monday, and I have other packets hurtling toward or sitting at other distributors. As soon as I have more issues in circulation I can get the costs down and sell some advertising. When I hit the 5000 issue circulation level it’ll be under $1 per issue. Notice that I didn’t use the word “if”.
This is also the second month in a row that software sales provided twice as much as I made in Adsense income. Yet I spent 10x as much time on website construction as I did on writing new software. Time for a change of strategy?
