Massive Quantities of Samples
May 16th, 2007 by Xangis
I’ve managed to offload almost all of my synthesizers via eBay. Only five remain of the original 20, and one of those will be leaving soon. The keepers: Ensoniq SQ-80, Yamaha TG-33, Yamaha TX81z, and Yamaha TG-77.
The last one to leave is going to be the Alesis Fusion 8HD. It’s very powerful, very impressive, very large, and very heavy. Before it heads out the door, I’m sampling all of the internal patches, around 800 or so. Since I’m recording 7 octaves of multisamples and recording 32-bit data, each patch takes up about 40 megabytes. I’m going to use up 32 gigabytes of disk space in total. It will be a lot less than that when edited down, but I’m not going to be hurting for material for sample CDs or freewavesamples.com anytime soon.
Speaking of sample CDs, the JX-8P sample CD is nearly ready. It will be interesting to see how it ends up being received.
