PHP + AJAX!

So, after doing a bit of research it turns out what I need to learn to do what I want to do on the web — whether it be in Drupal, Joomla, or a standalone site — is AJAX, and more specifically AJAX in combination with PHP.
Sometimes it’s pretty crazy how hard it is to get a straight answer about which web of the many web technologies of the three- and four-letter variety are actually suited to a task. Of course, your menu changes quite a bit depending on whether you’re using a Linux/UNIX server or a Microsoft server, but PHP seems to be the all-around safest bet due to its wide support. As for AJAX, we’ll see…
I’ve ordered a book that should reveal all of this juicy information about taking over the world one line of web-code at a time: AJAX and PHP: Building Responsive Web Applications. I hope it’s good because I’m really not interested in wasting time with a book that isn’t.
